Everyone has lots of questions about classes, especially for children so we have tried to answer the most common ones here.

Can I pay as I go?
We ask students to join as a rolling monthly membership. This is because the best results come from training weekly. We aim to provide 47 weeks of training per year and if a student is unable to make their usual class on a particular week they are welcome at an alternative class.
Is the instructor DBS checked?
Yes, all classes are run by Sensei Daljit Virdee who is fully DBS checked as well as being registered with BMABA and insured.
Do I need special equipment?
When you come to your trial sessions you should wear comfortable exercise clothing. Once you have joined you will be required to purchase a Gi (uniform) and protective pads. A list of equipment will be provided when you join. You do not have to purchase from VGK and are free to buy from anywhere you choose.
How quickly will I get a Black Belt?
It depends on how often you train, both in class and at home. Virdee Goju Ryu Karate do not issue belts simply based on how long you have been with the club. Students must show progression in skills, ability and dedication to progress. We do award 'half grades' for younger students to reward effort and commitment but all full grades, both at junior and senior level must be earned
Is there a risk of injury?
Karate is a physical activity and as students progress they do engage in sparring. We always make every effort to ensure students are safe and protected during training however there is always a small risk.
Who is your Dedicated Safeguarding Lead?
